Model reviewed: EM-7200-E8 v1 (discontinued)
The Omron M3 is a straightforward automatic upper-arm blood pressure monitor designed for home use.
This review relates to the discontinued EM-7200-E8 v1 model. You may still find it second-hand, but newer versions of the Omron M3 are widely available from UK retailers such as Boots and Argos.
What it does
The device measures:-
- Systolic blood pressure (mmHg)
- Diastolic blood pressure (mmHg)
- Pulse rate (beats per minute)
You place the cuff around your upper arm and press the start button. Inflation and measurement are automatic.
Results appear on a digital display within around a minute.
What it’s like to use
It’s simple and largely self-explanatory.
The cuff inflates firmly but not uncomfortably. The display is clear and large enough to read without squinting.
There are no complicated menus. For a reluctant patient, that matters. You don’t want a dashboard – you want a number.
The routine in practice
In my experience, clinicians often ask you to take three readings taken a few minutes apart, and record the reading with the lowest systolic measurement for review. However, it can also be informative to look at the variation across all three readings.
The EM-7200-E8 v1 does have onboard memory storage, but I haven’t used it. Instead, I:-
- Take a photo of the screen
- Turn the device off
- Wait a few minutes
- Repeat the measurement
Afterwards, I log results manually in:-
- A spreadsheet
- The NHS App
- Samsung Health
Occasionally, a GP surgery may send an online form to submit readings.
What it doesn’t do
This model does not:-
- Sync automatically with an app
- Store large amounts of historical data
- Provide advanced analytics
It is deliberately basic.
That can be either a limitation or a relief.
Reliability and longevity
This unit has been in use for several years without issue.
There are no obvious calibration features available to the user, and like most home monitors, accuracy depends on correct cuff placement and positioning.
For most people, it functions as a practical home monitoring device rather than a medical diagnostic tool.
Who it suits
This type of monitor suits someone who:-
- Wants a simple home reading
- Is comfortable logging results manually
- Doesn’t need Bluetooth connectivity
- Prefers straightforward devices
Bottom line
The Omron M3 (EM-7200-E8 v1) is a basic, easy-to-use home blood pressure monitor. It does exactly what it needs to do without unnecessary complexity.
For someone monitoring blood pressure at home, simplicity can be more valuable than features.
